On the 11th of May 2011 Brave Heart took in their first child. Although the Department of Social Services indicated that the child was four months old, we immediately realised that the baby was 4 days old. It was a cold winter’s day and we will never forget what this tiny little bundle felt like in our arms. We opened our arms to this precious little person with mixed feelings, as although we knew we could make a difference in the baby’s life, we also knew that the best place for a child is in their family home.
The stark reality is that there are many needy children in our community for whom a home like Brave Heart can make a huge difference. In the ten years since our establishment, we have been able to help 212 children. The ages of these children have varied between 0 and 12. During this first decade of existence, there have been many hurdles and we have trusted on God for his grace and remarkable provenance.
It was with great excitement and gratitude that we celebrated our tenth year of existence with a party for the children at Brave Heart. We are also very proud of Sylvia Qokolwana and Dorina Olivier that have been part of the Brave Heart team since our establishment 10 years ago. We are proud of all our committed and dedicated staff members. Brave Heart also took a moment to treasure the memories of three of the children who have passed away due to serious illness. They will live on in our hearts.
